I used to say that I'd rather have another baby than a puppy because I've never had to stand outside at 2am, in the pouring rain, begging my kids to hurry up and pee! Then my mother in law pointed out that when she wants to go out to dinner she can put her dog in a cage and go out for hours. That is generally frowned upon with children!

Whatever you do, go into it with your eyes open. Research breeds, talk to a local vet and get an idea about costs for shots, neutering, and preventative medicines, find out the schedule and costs for obedience classes. Just know what you are taking on before you make the final choice. A new pet is a lot of work and will create changes in your schedule but it can also be a good friend and a fun, happy member of the family!
